Green Technology…Tankless Water Heaters You Say?
Consider this…a standard water heater keeps 40 to 80 gallons of water heated to 120 degrees…sometimes higher. It doesn’t matter if you’re asleep, at the park playing with your kids or walking the dog. In fact you many not even be at home. That means every minute of every day your water heater is at work burning energy.
Did you know that the cost of heating that water can be your homes 2nd or 3rd biggest energy expense? That means it could be 13%-15% of a home’s water bill.
A tankless water heater (sometimes know as a “demand” water heater can help minimize the cost. It also reduces the environmental impact.
How does it work?
A tankless water heater uses a powerful heat exchanger to raise the temperature of the water. (a heat exchanger is a device the transfers heat from one source to another) In this case it transfers heat generated by electric coils or gas fired burners to the water that comes out of your tap or the shower. When you turn on the hot water tap, the incoming cold water is circulated through the activated heat exchanger. The heat exchanger heats the water to your preset temperature.
According to the U.S. department of energy, a home that uses 40 gallons or less of hot water daily can save as much as 34% when compared to the standard water heater. The savings are smaller on usage over 80 gallons per day…but still significant. The tankless water heater will save up to 14% over the standard water heater.
